Sheena Wilkie – The Work

These works reflect an ongoing practice of observing the world closely, moving between photography and watercolour as ways of noticing, studying, and translating what I see. Together, they form two interconnected parts of my visual storytelling practice, shaped by observation, memory, and the beauty of the ordinary.

My photographic journey began in portraiture and photojournalism, where I was drawn to the immediacy of people and moments. Over time, photography became a deeper creative language through which I explored story, memory, and careful observation.

Today, my art practice centres on painting and sketching, where working with brush and pigment allows me to respond more intuitively to place, experience, and everyday life.

I am deeply inspired by the tradition of oral storytelling—how words create images in the mind, and how images, like brushstrokes, gather fragments of meaning into something felt and remembered. For me, storytelling is not simply a record, but an invitation to pause, reflect, and notice the extraordinary within the ordinary.
