Sheena Wilkie – The Work
This work develops through sketch journals and observation in everyday settings—both close to home and in places I’ve travelled.
Together, these pieces reflect an ongoing practice of looking closely at the world, moving between photography and watercolour as ways of seeing, studying, and translating experience. They form two interconnected parts of my visual storytelling practice, shaped by observation, memory, and the beauty of the ordinary.
My photographic journey began in portraiture and photojournalism and gradually grew into a deeper visual language through which I explored story, memory, and attention to place. Today, my practice centres on sketch journals and painting, where working with brush and pigment allows a more intuitive response to everyday experience.
Underlying this work is a lasting interest in storytelling—how images, like spoken stories, gather fragments of meaning into something felt and remembered, and invite us to pause and see the beauty in the ordinary.
